"'Action, Emotion & Memories"

Agfa launches international B&W photo competition
Leverkusen, April 2003 - Black-and-white photography concentrates on the essentials. That defines its particular charm and, at the same time, its inherent challenge.
More and more creative workers in all media are currently succumbing to this charm and producing unvarnished, authentic B&W photos. Agfa has an invitation for professionals and ambitious amateurs who feel like imitating them and also facing up to this challenge: take part in "Action, Emotion & Memories", the international B&W photo competition being held by Agfa from 15 May to 15 August 2003. What we're looking for is pictures from the midst of life, with an eye for atmospheres and emotions, for unforgettable moments.
Each of the best twelve entries will be awarded a valuable Leica camera by a professional jury. And not only that: the winners will also attract worldwide attention, since the photos and the winners' names will be published in a high-quality calendar for 2004 that will be sold around the globe starting in October 2003. In addition, the top three winners will find their competition photo and their name on the new packaging of the current Agfa Multicontrast range from the beginning of 2004.
"In a world that is becoming increasingly complex, black-and-white concentrates our perception on the essentials. Consequently, the current world of pictures is determined not by colours, but by simplicity and contours," says Christian Sinz, Global Product Manager BW/Colour at Agfa, describing the current trend.
The competition is aimed not only at professionals and hobby photographers, but also colleges of photography, photo clubs and photographic associations. In view of the valuable prizes and the chance of reaching a global audience, the competition is expected to attract a great response.
The competition rules can be found on the Internet under the heading Pro Photo & Labs at www.agfa.com. More information on the competition is also available at
